Abstract

This investigative essay will deliver an analytical study of the suite Platero y yo from the composer Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. To perform this analytical study, the compositional elements used to convey the original idea that inspired this composition, that were taken from the homonymous literary work of the author Juan Ramón Jiménez, will be deeply investigated. With this end in sight we will analyse the relationships between this music and the literature by applying the theory of signs. This theory allows us to classify the signs that appear in both works and to understand which kind of interdisciplinary connections are developed in the artistic languages used in them. A strong interrelation between signs in the musical piece and the literary work has been found in this essay.
